Clay abrasiveness
Hello all. I am a newbie in here. I am trying to formulate a toothpaste. I am thinking of using bentonite clay in the toothpaste. Do you have any idea on abrasiveness of bentonite clay? Can it be harmful to enamel on the tooth? How can you compare with amorphous silica in terms of abrasiveness?

Hi @rewalker clay is a popular choice in the organic sector for oral care. However, I am just thinking it may turn your product poo brown. Could you wake up to that each morning. Kaolin clay can also be used. I would try it out yourself and see if it works. There are many other types of abrasives if you want to keep your toothpaste more like what we are used to. Also the clay you buy may not have the correct nano-size. I would ask about that before you buy it. I am under the impression that the size is 20uM just make sure it is around that size. @Belassi toothpaste generally has a pH of around 8 anyway
