  • Ceramide Complex: is it animal derived?

    Posted by raiyana on October 11, 2019 at 6:27 am

    Hi!
    I am planning to make my own Ceramide moisturiser, simply because it sounds like a fancy DIY project and Ceramide is like the “in thing” in skincare now…

    Anyways, I plan to purchase Ceramide Complex from lotioncrafter.
    Here’s the INCI: Ceramide NP; Ceramide AP; Ceramide EOP;
    Phytosphingosine; Cholesterol; Sodium Lauroyl Lactylate; Carbomer; Xanthan Gum.

    I emailed lotioncrafter to ask if Ceramide Complex contains any animal-derived ingredients. According to them, it doesn’t. Refer table below.

    I am curious about Cholesterol though. Knowing that cholesterol is only found in animals and not plants. If anyone can help clarify on this?

    Thanks a bunch in advance!

    So I’m pretty sure this is just repackaged Sk-Influx V  from Evonik and if so:

    “Cholesterol is a key ingredient of SK-INFLUX®/SKINFLUX® V MB and essential for the performance of
    the product. SK-INFLUX® V MB contains a vegetal derived, semi-synthetic cholesterol that is
    chemically and physically indistinguishable from
    the animal-based product.”

    @EVchem, I think makingcosmetics sell repackaged Evonik, the one sold by Lotioncfarter is made in china and ingredients listed in different order (makincosmetics’ one is identical to Evonik)

    Thank you for all of your replies @EVchem and @ngarayeva001 .

    I have just received a reply from lotioncrafter regarding my question above. Here’s their answer:

    “While we know cholesterol is typically derived from animals, the ingredient cholesterol used in Ceramide Complex, it is not bio-synthesized, but is semi-synthetic and plant derived (Phytosterols).”
