Most of my current lineup was formulated for myself due to having far too many triggers and reactions to store brand and pharmaceutical grade medications. I’ve noticed that in most of the benchmark brands that I rely on use CAPB prominently in their washes. Does anyone have experience formulating with Oat Foam or Apple Foam? Would that be a suitable alternative?

I have used both in oily/combination/acne prone/sensitive skin cleansers with success but I can’t comment on dry skin conditions except to say that apple extract is supposed to be good for dry skin. However, have you tried Shea Butter Surfactant? Please note that I’m not a qualified Chemist yet.

Not yet but that sounds luxurious. I’m leaning towards foaming oats due to the benefits of oats on sensitive or reactive skin. Its just becoming increasingly more expensive to experiment with the tariffs affecting prices.

Sensitivity to CAPB is very rare as shown in systematic reviews. In the case of sensitivity, you can of course choose to replace the ingredient, or a more chemical approach which is inactivate the impurities (amidoamines are responsible for the sensitization) by formulating more acidic products.

There are CAPB that have two of the sensitizing ingredients removed but the average person might not know which products those are. But its interesting that acid is helpful because that’s the only thing that’s ever worked for me. ACV is so popular now but it wasn’t 20+ years ago when I first started using it.
