  • Best solubiliser for toner

    Hello,
We were using polysorbate-80 as solubiliser in some transparent lotions to solubilise the preservative of the perfume. Unfortunately over time the lotion gets yellowish….

So I am looking for the best solubiliser for such type of product that is efficient, not producing foam and most important that is stable over time and not producing discolouration and allow to have a clear transparent product.

I wonder if some-one could recommend me some as each trial requires times and we are a bit in emergency to solve this issue.

    Thank you

We use  PEG-40 Hydrogenated castor oil (Acrysol K140 or Eumulgin CO40) as the alternative for Polysorbate 80. But IMO, almost the solubilizer will produce foam if they are surfactant.

Have you observe any discolouration over time? have you used it by chance in products with pH between 4 and 5 like toner with AHA?

I used it in eye drops and liquid (pharmaceutical product) for increasing solubility of preservatives or oil-soluble vitamins . pH 4-6 or 6-8 and never observed discoloration (in transparent eye drops).

PolySugaMulse D9 from Colonial Chemical Company (TN, USA) is the best solubilizer on the market, hands down. It is nonionic and handles that pH too.

If you want a polysorbate I thought poly-20 plus some PEG 40 castor oil. If you want to go natural you could try Caprylyl/Capryl Glucoside (CCG)?

We use caprylyl/Capryl Glucoside but it is producing foam so for lotion during filling process it is quite problematic and PolySugaMulse D9 is not registered in China unfortunately so we are trying some others.
