Anyone have experience with Sapogel?
Hi everyone! I’m obsessed with the glassy, radiant finish that Sapogel delivers—it leaves the skin looking incredibly dewy and luminous. However, I’ve been struggling to replicate that same effect with traditional emulsifiers.
I’ve been experimenting with Sapogel in my formulations and have run into a few challenges. First, it takes a long time to work with. Second, the smell is tough for me. Since I formulate fragrance-free, the musty odor becomes noticeable and unpleasant. Lastly, when trying to create a thin, runny lotion, I’ve found that using less than 15% tends to destabilize the emulsion, while going above 15% creates a texture that’s too thick for what I’m aiming for. I know increasing the Sapogel content to 25% creates a more honey-like texture, but the downside is that it still ends up too thick for the lightweight consistency I’m aiming for. Does anyone have: 1) Suggestions for other (ideally natural or peg-free) emulsifiers that create a similar glassy glow? 2)Tips for stabilizing a Sapogel-based emulsion at lower percentages? 3) Ideas on how to reduce the odor or thin the texture while preserving the glow?
One idea I’m exploring is using Sapogel at around 5% as a co-emulsifier to help maintain the glow—but I’m still unsure how it will affect overall stability and texture.
