  • Any solution for colour changing in hair balsam

We make a hair balsam with green colour by the time one of the lots change colour. I guess that u.v lights are the reason. Just the strange thing that the change of colour is for the newer lot (all lots are storaged in same conditions)

I want from experts to explain me the reason then the best solution to preserve balsam from changing colour.

@Fekher you’ll need to elaborate on what exactly is defined by “balsam”. My mind goes right to Balsam Peru essential oil, but I somehow think you are working with something else. Please include other ingredients used also. UV destabilization may indeed be the culprit but so might unforeseen interactions.

Thanks, that clears it up although you don’t describe which colorant is used - I’ll guess Blue #1/Yellow #5 or Green #6 with Yellow #5 or #6. Either way the Blue or Green is fading while the Yellow remains stable. Add benzephenone-4 (0.01%) to this, put a sample in glass in the windowsill for a while and see what happens.

Awsome as always @chemicalmatt actually the colour is a combination between green and yellow. Is benzephenon-4 is a solution for other colours? And what about Benzyl salycilate?

      Isn’t too low the level 0,01% ?

How big is the batch you are making? Could this be a weighing error from only using very small amounts of dye?

If it is a UV light issue you can also look for PET packaging with UV filters incorporated into the PET.

Thanks, the batch for 300 kg using the same lots of colours of older batches . About changing bottles I suggested it but for economical reason the suggestion was refused.
