  • Amodimethicone Replacement

Hello, I am currently having an issue sourcing Amodimethicone from my usual suppliers. I do have access to Cyclodimethicone / Dimethiconol. I have no prior experience with Dimethiconol. My application is for use in a Hair conditioner. My usual input of Amodimethicone is 1.00-1.25 %.

Am I going down the wrong path? And if it is possible to get a similar effect, how much Dimethiconol is typically used?

    Thank you, help is appreciated.

Amodimethicone is a cationic silicone. Your Cyclopentasiloxane (and) Dimethiconol will give you a different effect. If you are using some quat (like Behentrimonium chloride), you could i crease it a bit and replace Amodimethicone by Dimethicone (1000 cSt would be OK) at the same level.

@Cafe33 I’ll second the recommendation from @ketchito . Although cationic silicone adheres to keratin better than any other, if you combine 1000 cst. dimethicone with a behenyl quat like behentrimonium chloride, you will get a similar effect. If haircolor retention is your game, then add a small amount of polyquaternium-37 and a UV absorber and there you have it. Consider this a formulation hack. We are full of them; just ask us anytime.
