  • Acid thickner not working when added more acid then certain amount

    Hi !

I have been trying to formulate a very basic toilet cleaner using acid HCl and acid thickner. Earlier it used to work fine but now if acid is added more than 8-10 liters in batch then it starts to get thin. What could be the possible reason for this…

Could this be because of different batch of acid like it might be of different concentration (I.e earlier it was lower so it used to take more acid compared to now)… Or could it be because the whole acid is different (although we are getting our acid from same seller but now it has strong odour )

I also doubt that because the odour of acid fumes of current acid is different.

Btw I have read somewhere that “Thickening is lost if there are many more micelles than polymer molecules”. Therefore I was doubting about concentration as it may may have caused problem. Can you plz give some insight about above statement . I am using Fatty amine ethoxylate thickner

It’d hard to give any advice without knowing what’s in your formula. You don’t need to write down percentages, but a list of ingredients would be helpful.
