    Hi,

    I want to formulate a 3in1 body wash (for hair, body and face) using menthol- camphor mixture , acrylates copolymer as a thickener. Could you please answer the following questions?:

    1- Is menthol and camphor mixture a eutectic mixture?

    2- The acceptable percentages of menthol snd camphor for this body wash?

    3- I cannot use MIT/CMIT preservative when using menthol and camohor, can I?

    4- To neutralize acrylates copolymer should use NaOH? How to add this alkaline to thicken acrylates copolymer and then reduce the pH with citric acid?

    @Nikifarokhi I’ll answer best I can:

    1. Negative, these are not eutectic, different chemistry and not water soluble

    2, Acceptable concentrations: less than 1.0% menthol, less than 0.50% camphor. You’ll know if too much when you take a hot shower - both will sting the eyes when vaporized

    3. Sure you can use MIT, especially in a rinse-off.

    4 You may use NaOH solution, AMP or tromethamine to neutralize. If you use Synthalen W600 (acrylates Copolymer) from 3V Sigma USA, no need to back-acid titrate, just move on.

    There are legal limits to menthol and camphor so you can also add eucalpytus and peppermint to not only disguise the scent and to add a cooling effect without the sting.
