Shampoo bar
To formulate a shampoo bar for an ingredient, polyglyceryl-4 laurate, in case I don’t have it, what can I substitute in its place?
INGREDIENTS: SODIUM COCOYL ISETHIONATE, HYDROGENATED VEGETABLE OIL, AQUA (WATER), POLYGLYCERYL-4 LAURATE, GLYCERIN, PARFUM (FRAGRANCE), GUAR HYDROXYPROPYLTRIMONIUM CHLORIDE, COCOS NUCIFERA (COCONUT) OIL, HEXYL CINNAMAL, LINALOOL, TETRASODIUM GLUTAMATE DIACETATE, ALPHA-ISOMETHYL IONONE, HIBISCUS SABDARIFFA FLOWER EXTRACT, URTICA DIOCIA (NETTLE) LEAF EXTRACT, CITRONELLOL, LIMONENE, CINNAMAL, CITRIC ACID, SODIUM BENZOATE, POTASSIUM SORBATE, CI 77492 (IRON OXIDES), CI 77491 (IRON OXIDES), CI 17200 (RED 33)

Are you sure you need a preservative for a shampoo bar? any idea the Aw?

What was it doing and what other surfactants you have available?

I have sodium coco sulfate, sodium lauryl sulfoacetate, cocamidopropyl betaine

OMIT the hydrogenated vegetable oil & the coconut oil. You could use those for cooking/baking instead, IF you’ve already purchased them. Why put oils (or fats) on your hair when the entire point of WASHING your hair is to REMOVE your own sebum & the dirt attached to it, right? You would be sadly wasting those ingredients and the money you spent on them if you put them in your shampoo bars. You do NOT have to “follow the crowd” if they’re doing something that does NOT make sense.
