    This patent is about a method of mixing cationic guar and silicone micro emulsion in a shampoo.

    This is the preparation method they mention.

    (i) preparing an aqueous solution (suitably about lwt%) of the JAGUAR C13S at pH above 8, (preferably about 9) ;

    (ii) adding the silicone droplets;

    (iii) adjusting the mixture to pH 4-7, (preferably about 6), mixing for about 20 minutes, and then readjusting the pH of the mixture to above 8, (preferably about 9) .

    But when they provide an example, preparation method for that example is like this.

    The method of preparation of the shampoo is as follows: For 100 g of shampoo, dissolve 0.018 g of guar hydroxypropyltrimonium chloride in the free water of the formulation and adjust the pH to 9. Add the dimethiconol microemulsion and stir well for twenty minutes. Adjust the pH of the mixture to 6 and then combine it with the other components of the formulation and the remaining guar hydroxypropyltrimonium chloride.

    Questions

    1. Is it important to mix cationic guar and silicone micro emulsion at pH 9, adjust pH to 6 then mix for 20 minutes?

    Or mix cationic guar and silicone micro emulsion at pH 9, mix for 20 minutes ,then adjust pH to 6?

    2. When pH is adjusted to 6, is it necessary to readjust pH to 9 as they say in first method but don’t do so when they prepare example?

    In the first part of the premix, they want to GHPTC to be mixed without gelling, that’s why the high pH (I’ve seen that in a UL patent). I guess they add the silicone after so the coacervate is more homogenous in composition (but that’s a guess), and then they add the acid to make the gel.
