Xylitol in toothpaste
Posted by Margaret on December 6, 2024 at 12:23 pmLOI of a toothpaste I found on-line:
Calcium Carbonate, Sodium Bicarbonate, Xylitol, Sea Salt, Colloidal Silver, Castile Soap, Trace Mineral Concentrate, Spearmint Essential Oil.
Would the makers have made a solution out of the xylitol in the above toothpaste? (otherwise it would be dry, me thinks) What % xylitol solution would it have been, roughly (best guess)?

Hard to call this a toothpaste because there is no water in it - it looks like a toothpowder. Dip your wet toothbrush into the powder then brush as normal.
When manufacturing toothpaste, I dissolve the xylitol into the water along with other water soluble ingredients, before adding the dry ingredients into the vacuum mixer.

Here’s the link. They call it a toothpaste. It looks like a very thick paste in the jar it’s sold in. Maybe they use LOTS of surfactant ingredient to make it paste-like?

Considering that they use Castile Soap, I assume you might turn the mix into a thick paste. Although, I wouldn’t use soap as a binder or foamer- but to each it’s own.

I’d say it is an incomplete INCI - there has to be water in the formulation somewhere - even the liquid castille soap has water in the INCI (or at least it should). But also assuming that the colloidal silver will provide some water.

I agree about the incompleteness of their LOI. They left out “love”, because, who would WANT to buy anything WITHOUT “love” (& little hairs) in it? 🤪

@Margaret the answer: a LOT of xylitol. That is the only sweetener listed so I’ll wager >10 % else this might make you puke with all that soap and carbonate. Also, this IS a solid state formula (powder).
