My first diy shampoo lose viscosity after 48 hour.
Hi, I want to make a diy shampoo for my personal use. the formula is very simple:
- SLES 15%
- Cocamidopropyl Betaine 5%
- Glycerin 5%
- Coco Glucoside & Glyceryl Oleate 2.5%
- NaCl (salt) 2% - to increase SLES viscosity
- Citric Acid (buffering) 0.5-1% (to make ph at 5.5 - 6)
- water 69-70%
my first batch is 500g in total.
Mixing process:
1. I separate 70% of water into A - 40% and B -30%. I warm water A 40% and mix it with SLES. I stir it until it completely dissolves which take a long time like 1 hour.
2. Then, I add the other surfactant and glycerine together and stir a bit
3. I add NaCl and water B and stir it. At this time, I notice that the solution is in very high viscosity. I stir it a bit and put citric acid. I keep stirring until it looks like all ingredients are mixing well
4. then, I fill it in bottle. it’s very thick and I feel maybe I want to add some water to make it less think.
however, 2 days has been passed and I notice that the viscosity drops a lot.
My question is, is this normal? the viscosity decreases a lot after 2 days and which ingredient could cause this?
Thank you.
