  • Does cationic guar need high viscosity to be stable in shampoo

I made 2kg shampoo sample yesterday. 1kg without NACL and 1kg with 1.5% NACL. I added NACL at the end. Cationic guar in sample without NACL precipitated in one day and the one with NACL and high viscosity is stable yet.

My question is: does cationic guar in shampoo need high viscosity to be stable?

    Shampoo actives

    SLES 14

    CAPB 2

    Cationic guar 0.1

    Amodimethicone micro emulsion 0.2

    pH 5.5

I think it’s not about the viscosity. it’s about the ionic strength.

Just curious, how is the precipitation of guar looks like? By looking at your formulation, there is microemulsion of amodimethicone. I would say this is one of the ingredient that need some suspending agent to stabilise the shampoo system.
