    Hi!

    I was wondering if there are any ways to make anhydrous makeup waterproof other than using coated pigments?

    I am formulating an eyeliner with 20% silane-coated iron oxides as recommended by Momentive (it was originally their sample formula that I decided to alter a little bit), but the end product turns out too sticky as if doesn’t set or fully dry down. Methicone- and dimethicone- coated iron oxides also result in sticky end-product. Mixing 50% coated and 50% non-coated iron oxides smudge.

    I tried doing the same thing, but with regular (non-coated) iron oxides and Ronastar Black Allure (iron oxides + TiO2) and it turns out just great, except for the fact that it’s doesn’t withstand water.

    So, can I make the formula waterproof without using coated pigments? Would adding waterproof silica dimethyl sililate help fix the situation?

    Ingredients: Isododecane, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Iron oxides (silane-coated), Bentone Gel, Magnesium Myristate, Silica, Velvesil DM LC, SF1642, DIPENTAERYTHRITYL HEXAHYDROXYSTEARATE/HEXASTEARATE/HEXAROSINAT, preservative.

    Hi there! It sounds like you’re working hard on perfecting your eyeliner formula. Have you considered experimenting with other heardle waterproofing agents like trimethylsiloxysilicate or different types of silica? Sometimes a small tweak in the formulation can make a big difference. Also, maybe adjusting the ratio of coated to non-coated pigments could help with the stickiness issue.
