Hi everyone, Please take a look at the image and the following formulation and give your expert opinion on why this separation happened. I made and used 3 100g samples and this never happened to them or maybe I used them before separation happened. I made this 500g batch and put it in two bottles. One is almost finished but the second one is separated in 20 days.

    Here’s the formulation

    42.00% Water

    0.10% Disodium EDTA

    ASM

    5.95% Sodium Cocoyl Isothionate

    9% CAPB

    2.5% Decyl Glucoside

    1.00% Keradyn HH - Bis-Ethyl (isostearylimidazoline) Isostearamide

2.50% CRODAZOSOFT SCQ (Quaternium-91(and) PPG-3 Benzyl Ether Myristate)

    1.00% EGDS Glycol Disterate

    1.50 PEG-7 Glyceryl Cocoate

    0.65 Parfum

    1.00% Rosemary extract 70% Glycerine

1.00% Green Tea extract 75% Glycerine

    1.00% Barhami/Centella Asiatica 80% Glycerine

1.00% Keravis (Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein PG-Propyl Silanetriol)

1.00% Aquaderm SP (Sodium PCA (and) Sodium Lactate (and) Fructose (and) Glycine (and) Niacinamide (and) Urea (and) Inositol)

    2.75% Glycerine

    0.50% Guar hydroxypropyltrimonium chloride

    1.00% Euxyl PE9010

    The final PH was 6.

@rizi this is attributed to the often depicted anionic/cationic incompatibility seen so many times. You have all that amino-functional conditioning material mixed in with your primary anionic isethionate. Then there are the sodium salts to add to the maelstrom. This electrolytic chaos is kicking out EGDS and fatty amides. The guar HPTC isn’t nearly enough to stabilize this either. Also, as everyone in this blog knows my M.O. well by now: WHY add all that glycerin to a shampoo???? I am astonished this foams, builds or remains stable at all.

Thank you for your feedback. What I understand is, Isethionate isn’t compatible with these conditioning agents? Should I replace it with Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate an amino acid based surfactant?

If I keep the Isethionate then increasing the guar HPTC and removing the electrolytes Aquaderm may help?

Re Glycerine: With this amount of glycerine the foam is very dense and stable. No issue in the foaming.
