I’m new to this website and also formulating cosmetics. It’s something I enjoy doing. I thought I’d reach out because I have a question about Niacinamide benefits.

I have a very dry skin and an eczema that flares up from time to time, so I made a body lotion butter which turned out great. Made my skin feel smooth, hydrated and soft. I’m due for another batch and I thought I’d incorporate Niacinamide this time since ive been reading about how it helps skin pigmentation & tone and acne, but before I go and buy some. I wanted to reach out to ask you guys if you’ve experimented with Niacinamide and it does actually work in skincare and worth the money.

I’m also thinking of making a face cream with Niacinamide to trial

Niacinamide is one of the most studied of the cosmetic ingredients and is one of the few that most will staunchly stand behind. However, everyone’s skin is different. A well-studied ingredient can still irritate a certain skin type, so work your way into it.

I would suggest a use rate of 2% to start with. Typically, since most skin is quite tolerant to it, the manufacturers will race each other to max levels….that give no additional benefit beyond claim.

Thanks for the info, I’ll start reading them. Do you think using Niacinamide in a face wash can be beneficial or money will be down the drain? Since a face wash stays in the face not that long

As graillotion mentioned, i’d also recommend starting with 2%. It’s best to have it in a leave on formula. Not much point in rinsing it off and wasting money.

Remember to patch test. I found out i was allergic to that.

I think before you use Niacinamide you need to understand it clearly. Niacinamide, also known as vitamin B3, is an excellent ingredient for skincare, especially for those with dry, eczema-prone skin. It offers a wide range of benefits, including:

Niacinamide helps increase the production of ceramides, which are essential lipids that help maintain the skin’s barrier function and prevent moisture loss. This makes niacinamide a valuable addition to body butter to keep your skin hydrated and supplemented.

It has anti-inflammatory properties that help soothe and calm irritated skin, making it a suitable choice for people with eczema or other inflammatory skin conditions.

It can help reduce hyperpigmentation and uneven skin tone by inhibiting the production of melanin, the pigment that gives skin its color. This, along with its ability to increase ceramide production, can help improve the overall appearance of your skin.

Niacinamide may help reduce the appearance of pores by regulating the production of sebum, the natural oil our skin produces. This can make your skin look smoother and more refined.

It has antibacterial properties that can help fight acne-causing a small world cup bacteria. It can also help reduce inflammation and redness associated with acne.

Start with a low concentration (2-5%) and gradually increase as your skin tolerates it. For best results, use niacinamide products daily. Mix niacinamide products with other skin care products, such as moisturizers and serums.

Thank you for explaining how beneficial Niacinamide is for skin. That helped a lot! Do you know if there’s any benefit using it in a leave-in conditioner for hair?
