  • Lamellar water?

The product I have a question about is the L’Oreal 8 second wonder water. Here are the claims:

Instant hair transformation in 8 seconds

Rinse-out treatment with lamellar technology for silkier, shinier, healthier looking hair

No silicones, no weigh down, no parabens, color-safe

    Here are the ingredients:

Propylene Glycol, Alcohol Denat., Myristyl Alcohol, Aqua/Water/Eau, Parfum/Fragrance, Dicaprylyl Carbonate, Cetrimonium Chloride, Behentrimonium Chloride, Isopropyl Alcohol, Benzyl Salicylate, Hexyl Cinnamal, Benzyl Alcohol, Coumarin, Hydroxypropyltrimonium Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Linalool, Hydroxycitronellal, Amyl Cinnamal, Limonene, Tocopherol, Citronellol, Arginine PCA, Phenoxyethanol, Fil Code D235845/1.

So I’ve used it and it works incredibly well for me. It’s also kind of expensive. I attempted to use just straight propylene glycol but it didn’t have the same effect. I’m thinking that the ingredients after fragrance aren’t the ones making my hair feel nice. I can’t find a source for the Myristyl Alcohol; is there an ingredient I can use in its place? Thank you

    On the claims…

“Instant hair transformation in 8 seconds” - this can mean anything so it doesn’t mean much. Just getting your hair wet instantly transforms it.

“…silkier, shinier, healthier looking hair” - again these are subjective claims that could be supported by any product.

“no silicones…etc.” - just claims about the formula not the benefits.

The ingredients providing the most benefit are Cetrimonium Chloride and Behentrimonium Chloride.

A substitute for Myristyl Alcohol would be Cetyl Alcohol.
