I have this insatiable desire to take certain ingredients and run them through a GC-MS test. No real value, just curiosity. I’d love to see if some of the one trick ponies have learned any new tricks? Just wondering if tree bark preservative, and delicious berry preservative is any different than Kimchi preservative?

Usually I just assume these tests are beyond the cost of curiosity…but then again, some of the Essential oil folks provide them….but I am assuming these are done WAY upstream, where the cost can be amortized.

If they exist…what are some reputable labs…that offer this service at a reasonable price (and what is that ballpark price)? Or is there someone on the forum…that can do this in house…. and curiosity also has hold of your cat?

    Aloha

Lots of labs offer the testing but not cheaply and are prob not eager to address single samples. If you were in mainland, I’d suggest ATL in Cincy Think there’s a Eurofins in Hawaii

If you’re evaluating mixtures of chemicals, you might have a hard time interpreting the results. Even with single chemicals, you’d need some reference, so be sure to search for the right literature (both for procedure -to know which column to use, if you need to pre-treat your sample before- and results interpretation).
