Do you have recommendation for reputable US (East Coast ideally) skincare contract manufacturers who will work with customer–owned formula (technology transfer) & who will do smaller MOQ, around 2,000–3,000 pieces per SKU? I am looking for cGMP, ISO 22716, FDA registered, full stability & micro testing, as well as QA on incoming raw materials. So far I talked to: Englewood Lab, iLabs, Bentley Labs, Phytogenx, Biogenesis Lab, and Mana – all of them require MOQ of 5,000 – 10,000 pieces, which is too high. FMI is the only manufacturer I found so far who will do 3,000 pieces, but I don’t know much about them. Thank you!

Hey @Perry44 and @MarkBroussard I would love your feedback on this, if possible. Based on your experience, do you have any recommendations for me? Thank you!

I have a couple of clients who recently used FMI … FMI kept claiming that their prototypes were failing stability testing. Turns out, in going down the list of ingredients, FMI substituted a surfactant that I have never even heard of before, much less specified in the formula. Also, the formula specifically called for Glyceryl Stearate SE and they were using Glyceryl Stearate. So, I don’t get the impression they are skilled … there’s a reason FMI is short for Fragrance Manufacturing, Inc. I don’t think they have a strong experience base in cosmetics as their core is in Fragrances.

You might try Precious Cosmetics. I’ve had good experience with them.

Thank you @MarkBroussard I knew you’ll have good feedback! That doesn’t sound good with FMI. Did they make those changes to the formula without customer’s approval, because that’s unacceptable? Thanks for the recommendation, I looked into Precious Cosmetics before, but their website didn’t have a lot of info, so I skipped it. I will contact them to discuss.

@kivangel as someone who worked in contract manufacturing for over 35 years, all in Chicagoland, I can say you are asking for a lot of parameters for a low MOQ house. Do you mean OTC-drug registered establishment when you state “FDA registered”? That cuts out a LOT of CM. Also, certification for ISO16128 by SGS or another agency is an expense most CM will not abide unless their client (or their own brand) requires retail acceptance through WERCS. Honestly, I cannot believe Mana, Apex, Bell, or others of that size and stature would even commit to 20,000 MOQ. Lower your limitations and I’m sure you will find a good CM that can perform capably at the 4000 - 5000 unit level. As for MOQ of 2000? I cannot say. Others may weigh in here.

Thank you for your feedback @chemicalmatt I appreciate it. All the suppliers I mentioned confirmed MOQ of 5,000 (except Mana & iLabs who are at 10,000) & each of them satisfies all of my criteria. So there is no reason for me to lower my standards for MOQ of 5,000, when there are plenty of options 🙂 I’ve worked in cosmetic industry for 10 years & I like to do things properly or not at all. I’m sure I will find a partner that fits my criteria. I’m just leaning in on the experience of our community here, to explore if MOQ of 2,000-3,000 pcs could be an option or not.

Yes, the owner of Cosmos is Mary Berry. She was the founder of Texas Beauty Labs (now Goodkind). I have indeed worked with both Cosmos and Precious Cosmetics.

If you would also reconsider manufacturing it overseas with a reputable company. They worked with numerous global well-known companies and small to medium-sized brands. Then it might just be what you are looking for, the flexibility of a tailored product with the best reputation and expertise. You can be assured that quality will always come first, and your intellectual property will be professionally protected. With many new active ingredients introduced into the market, we are at the center of skincare and cosmetic advancement.

With your permission, I would like to PM you for more information.????

Hello Milos, can I please get more info about this too, I’m at the verge of working with some others. But I know I will prefer other options overseas. Thank you.
