Surfactants
Are there any surfactants that are not derived from coconut, palm, or corn? I’ve been searching for years on and off and haven’t found anything. I’m looking to formulate dishwasher detergent, hand washing dish soap, laundry detergent, and shampoo for people with extreme allergies to these ingredients. My two children fall into these groups and there are more people besides my family that could benefit from these products. Soap based cleaners are not working very well and I’m so tired of the stench in the laundry.

Hi, Yes! Soapberries
also known as soap nuts. They are fruits of several shrubs in the <em style=”background-color: var(-bb-content-background-color); font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; color: var(-bb-body-text-color); -webkit-text-size-adjust: 100%;”>Sapindus genus.
Soap berries contain saponins, similar to soap and surfactants.
They and are commonly used as laundry or dishwashing detergent.

I’ve tried soap nuts and they didn’t do much good either. Is there something I need to try to add with them?

Alpha olefin sulfonate

Is there a pure form of this available? I have only been able to find a 40% solution and the additives are corn based. Unfortunately it’s enough corn to cause issues.

Regular soap?

Regular soap hasn’t worked like it should but I do use it. I assume because of how hard our water is.
