  • Mixing Squalane with polar oil

    Hi ,

I have some TEC (20%) mixed with inorganic sun screen (15%)and I attempted to use Squalane (65%) to finish my formulation. I have observed a small settling on the bottom of the formulation . Of course Squalane is a non polar oil while TEC is. Is that the reason of the observed settling ? I will try to use a thickener so solve the issue..any other suggestions ?

Are you certain that settling is not due to the mineral(s)? Without a rheology additive, those will always settle eventually. That being said, I have to believe that triethyl citrate and squalane are not miscible for the very reason you mention. If it is one of these lipids settling, then try a coupler ester like coco caprylate or dibutyl adipate.

I am monitoring , yes it seems to me now that only the minerals are settling . Still I am not sure that I understand is squalane miscible with any vegetable oils for example (they are polar) ?
