  • Incorporating Pisum Sativum (Pea) Extract into a body oil formulation

I am trying to incorporate 2% Pisum Sativum (Pea) Extract into a body oil formulation. I tried using Polyglyceryl Oleate at 2% as well to incorporate it into the oil blend. I initially got a foamy top but over 2 days it looks like the “water” phase is sinking to the bottom of the oil. I am trying to work with emulsifiers that are easy for me to source. Do I need to increase the % of Polyglyceryl Oleate or add a co emulsifier like Polysorbate 80?

See below my formula and thank you in advance for your help.

    Grapeseed Oil 50%

    MCT 30%

    Safflower Oil 10%

    Shea Oil 4%

    Polyglyceryl Oleate 2%

    Pisum Sativum (Pea) Extract 2%

    Vitamin E 1%

    Fragrance 1%

    Hi,

you are using 1:1 ratio // solubiliser (low HLB emulsifier in this case) : water soluble ingredient.

What ratio would you use to solubilise oil in water? 1 : 3? 1 : 5? 1 : 10? .. that would depend on the lipid and the solubiliser, right? Think about it and try to use it in your case.

Polysorbate has high HLB, it would not work in this case. You are using correct ingredient (low HLB emulsifier), you just need to either lower your extract or increase the “solubiliser”.

Thank you very much @Paprik … I will think through and try at a different ration
