  Is California About To Legally Define Clean Beauty

  Proposed California AB 496 would ban specified ingredients in cosmetic products effective Jan 1, 2025. An abbreviated list of proposed banned ingredients includes:

  - Pthallates
  - Formaldehyde
  - Methylene Glycol
  - Quaternium-15
  - Mercury
  - Isobutyl and Isopropyl Parabens
  - Phenylenediamine (and salts)
  - PFAS (and salts)
  - Lily Aldehyde
  - Acetaldehyde
  - Cyclotetrasiloxane
  - Phytonadione
  - Styrene
  - Trichloroacetic Acid
  - Bay Leaf Oil
  - Boron Substances (several ingredients included here)
  = Basic Green 1
  - Basic Blue 7
  - Basic Violet 4
  - Basic Blue 3
  - Basic Blue 9

  Pretty much none of these are really used in cosmetics anymore right?
  It’s the old EU trick of banning things companies don’t use.

  I have certainly not/never used most of these on the list. There are a couple of interesting ones:

  Phytonadione (Vitamin K) used in eye creams, Bay Leaf Oil, Trichloroacetic Acid (TCA Peels) and the Basic Dyes (Semi Permanent Hair Dyes).

  Think recent fed legislation (MoCRA) should preempt moronic state BS like this.

  Yes, and NY State just prohibited Mercury in cosmetics. The FDA already has that covered.
