  • What are your go to emulsifiers and/or polymers?

What are your top weapons of choice and why? Have any ever just completely blown you away? (Pardon the pun).

Let’s discuss the different properties that the various options bring to a formula.

Which ones can you absolutely not stand, and why?

I haven’t used that many myself, but I do enjoy Montanov 202 and Sepinov EMT 10 quite a lot. 202 because it forms very stable emulsions, and EMT 10 because of it’s ease of use.

I think this discussion will be meaningless, because it’s a matter of taste rather than to have an objective arguments. About Montanov 202 I think it’s overprized and I can’t see anything special about this emulsifier.
Me personally, prefer to use very basic emulsifiers, which I can buy from anywhere, and also I prefer to make my own blends.

@ggpetrov thank you for your valuable insight.

Personally i rather enjoy hearing people’s subjective opinions on things, I mean that’s what half of this forum is about, isn’t it? And i’ve learned quite a lot here from exactly these types of discussions.

I like 165 types…for incredibly stability…and flexibility.  I like to build my own viscosity…and not have it dictated by the emulsifier.

I think what you like about M 202 is the behenyl alcohol.  So that can be added to ANY formula…as a add in.  Easy peasy.

@Graillotion i did not know that about behenyl
alcohol, now i will definitely experiment with that as a spearate ingredient when using other emulsifiers.

Yes…anywhere you use cetyl or cetearyl…replace with same amount of behenyl…and formula is just better feeling.  Now memba…I like things dry and powdery….so this all goes back to….what you personally like.

With the longer carbon chain…it should also enhance about everything….melt point…stability…etc..  Also generally palm free tag goes on it.

    Only down side… more $$$

But FSS has a 20% sale going for the next few days.  Grab some.

I use the 202 as well since i prefer a matte finish on the skin. I do also have the others and low cost emulsifiers but it really depends on what i want to make.

For the polymers besides from the usual Sepinov, i will also use the ones from the Ultrez series since i don’t need to wait that long for them to wet compared to the classic 900+ carbomers series.
