Flash Points and Safe Manufacturing Practices
Hi All,
I understand what flash points are and their purposes regarding handling and transport generally, but I am looking for some advice on how one scales up a formulation which is heavy in use on a flammable material.
Specifically, I have a lip recipe which uses 57% Isododecane, FP of 45C and I will be incorporating into it some Sunflower wax (6%) with a melt point of 74C.
The other ingredients are Dimethicone with a higher FP at 10%, and some texturizing powders.
I have made small batches but I’m ramping up to a jacketed container that holds about 10 gallons. Advice on staging the process or what to worry or not worry about?
Bonus question: I’ll be sending the finished product out for a flash point test, but is there any way to mathematically calculate an estimate of where the product will end up? I might want to pre-tweak the recipe so that I don’t have a restricted to ship finished product.
Thanks!
