Best ways to advertise and sell a product
Posted by WalterBliss on July 20, 2022 at 11:23 amThe product is made. It really works better than even anticipated. Not one person that has purchased has given less than 5 out of 5 for performance. It does more than anticipated. It is a super product but sales are dismal even with a very thin profit margin. The problem is getting people to try it. What are the best ways to advertise to sell a product?

The old fashion way still works - paid advertising.
But direct to customer, online selling will work better for a small brand. Here’s a strategy.
1. Create a website with content relevant to your product. What problem does your product solve?
2. Create an email list of potential customers by giving away an information product that they will find useful.
3. Then do email marketing where you give great content while also pitching your product.
4. Rinse & repeatI will add that trial is not a particularly effective way to make a loyal customer. Everyone can make a good performing product. Consumers are not particularly good at noticing subtle differences so often they just go with products for which they like the fragrance.
If you are relying on product performance to sell your product, you will not be successful. You need to create a compelling story that makes people identify with your brand and want to support it. Of course, the product also has to solve their problem.

@Waterbliss
Why does a 5 / 5 star rated product have a “very thin profit margin” … I would address that issue first.

Can you tell us more? Who are your target customers? I think that will also affect your marketing strategy. I’m an “elder millennial” and have never been on Tik Tok. My 20 year old cousin has informed me that all of her body and bath and beauty purchases were impulse buys driven by things she sees people use and review on Tik Tok. That’s an alien concept to me. Someone like me could be reached on email lists, Facebook or Instagram although I find Facebook ads generally annoying and I’m very unlikely to buy anything advertised there. This will sound silly but I will often Google “best eye cream”, “best AC”, “best Indian restaurant”, read reviews and make a decision. Who reviews products in your category? Can you get yours in front of them?
I think a good start is to just keep asking random people: the last time you bought x product, how did you make your decision? The answers will inform your strategy.

How much is the profit margin?
If the profit margin is too low, you will not make enough profit to make you motivated enough to sell more.

Website is a must, email marketing still works well.
Younger audiences prefer Tik Tok.
Instagram doesn’t really generate much sale but you have to be there.
Facebook and Google for older audiences.Ideally, you would have to be present in all platforms.
But if advertizing fund is limited, you have to identify your audiences first and you will have general idea how to be present to them. And many more strategies marketers use.

Agreed. Will it worth advertizing?
But first and foremost, have your identified your brand?

There’s many ways. Although TicTok seems to be a hot spot for some products becoming overnight success. Some of that comes down to luck or simply paying to get your product in those videos. Then there’s all the other social media, it’s mostly pay to play. Your best bet might be a “highly targeted ad” through facebook or google.Think of it this way, there are great products that don’t sell and really crap products that sell a lot. The difference in sales comes down to branding and marketing. In the end really you have to try a little bit of everything and experiment.
