Relationship between Ceramides and Glycols….is there one?
I snipped out the following two sentences from a small study… and was curious, if one is using ceramides, is there a synergy with having glycols in the formula? Naturally, I include glycols in all my products, which some of them contain ceramides. Did I, in my ignorance, stumble across a synergy? What are your thoughts?
In the case of Glycols, they increase hydration by going in between the hydrophilic heads of Ceramides or disrupting their arrangement altogether. They can also replace water to keep skin cells pliable as they have lower vapor pressure, so they evaporate slower than water.
I realize there might be a difference between… the natural ceramides in the skin….and the ceramides that come in the formula. So maybe your answer has to address these groupings separately.I am also open to the idea….that the study is completely wrong….Not everything on the internet is true.
