  • Ingredient to ‘increase’ hair volume/density

    Hi there!

I’m helping out a client that wants to develop a formulation based on a Vichy’s product. It consists in a rinse hair conditioner that ‘increases’ the hair volume/density. While I’m skeptical about this claim, since I know that hair volume/density is mainly defined by genetic factors, I’d like to know if there’s any ingredient that causes this sensation to the consumer. I once heard that Dowsil VM-2270 Aerogel Fine Particles (INCI: Silica Silylate) and Belsil TMS 803 (INCI: Trimethylsiloxysilicate) can cause this sensation (of more hair density/volume) but since I never tested, I’m not a 100% sure.

Also, there’s the Vicky formulation down below. I think that maybe HYDROXYPROPYL STARCH PHOSPHATE is responsible for the density/volume sensation. It’s the second ingredient, so it is present in a high concentration. What do you guys think?

Product name: Dercos Densi-Solutions Regenerating Thickening Balm

Product composition: AQUA / WATER - HYDROXYPROPYL STARCH PHOSPHATE - GLYCERIN - QUATERNIUM-87 - STEARYL ALCOHOL - BEHENTRIMONIUM CHLORIDE - CANDELILLA CERA / CANDELILLA WAX - CAPRYLYL GLYCOL - CETYL ESTERS - GERANIOL - HEXYL CINNAMAL - ISONONYL ISONONANOATE - ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL - LIMONENE - LINALOOL - MENTHA PIPERITA OIL / PEPPERMINT OIL - MENTHOL - 2-OLEAMIDO-1,3-OCTADECANEDIOL - PHENOXYETHANOL - PROPYLENE GLYCOL - RHAMNOSE - SODIUM HYDROXIDE - TOCOPHERYL ACETATE - PARFUM / FRAGRANCE.

    Thanks in advance!

    Kind regards,

By using cationic surfactants like SPDMA and BAPDMA you feel that your hair volume has increased because it doesn’t weight down the hair like BTMS does.
    This was my experience

Thank you Abdullah! I’ll say to my client to try out these ingredients and tell me what does she thinks of the results.
