  Can excess preservatives make moisturizing lotion become watery .

  What was the preservative….and how much did you use?

  You need to provide lots of information with your question.

  And yes, some preservatives can destabilize an emulsion.  You should also include what you are emulsifier you are using.

  What type of hardware did you use, to make the emulsion?

  If you are using within recommended rates but it stills becomes “watery”, it means that your preservative (blend) is destabilizing your emulsion. Try using another preservative. 

  But as Graillotion mentioned, the other details would also be important, so you might want to mention them.

  Preservatives used
  Methyl paraben=0.15%

  Propyl paraben= 0.1%
  Euxyl PE 9010. =  0.5%
  With  Carbopol ung =0.05%
  Anionic emulsifying wax( cetostearyl alcohol and sodium lauryl sulfate.)
  Using Homogenizer

  If I want to use the following preservatives together in one Cream or Lotion recipe (formula) what will be the ratio or percentages to be used safely:
  DMDM Hydantoin
  Methyl paraben
  Propyl Paraben
