    Raw material names and structures.  Have you read this? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CAS_Registry_Number

    It is not terribly helpful for the cosmetic industry though since CAS doesn’t say much about what an ingredient does & it doesn’t coincide exactly with INCI names of ingredients.

    The CAS number can be useful if you want to verify you are getting the exact same chemical that you want/need, if you are confused by similar chemical names. It’s not too useful for cosmetic raw materials, as they are often blends, with multiple CAS numbers, or have no assigned CAS as many botanical extracts do not.

    As said above…it is helpful when comparing ingredients from different sources, when you are looking for something in particular.  :)
