  • Emulsified deodorant stick concepts.

I am making my first foray into making a deodorant stick.  Due to some of the water-soluble ingredients I want to include, I have to make an emulsified product.  I am a little overwhelmed looking at hundreds of formulas…and not finding a consistent example of emulsification.  (If I went the anhydrous route….it would be a snap.)

What are some thoughts on emulsifiers for a deodorant stick, that will have less than 50% water, and (probably) lots of PG and Propanediol…and various waxes.

I am not asking about the functional part…. just the structural part.  It is giving me mental fits.  I have not yet made the first iteration….still trying to wrap my mind around the bones.

    Aloha.

(Literally read every formula on ULP….yeah…that takes hours!)

Use Sodium Stearate … it’s less that joyful to work with, particularly for a highly competitive product category with low margins, but if you have your mind set on it, view it as a learning experience.

Thank you for you input Mark.  If there was one thing that popped up over and over…it was SS!  However, I keep finding comments about it being irritating to skin, and lacking in elegance.

At this point…I have no plan on selling this product…just something for me and a few friends… So how would you say…. money is no object…and haptics will be everything.  If I’m giving it away…it better feel da&$m good.  :D

Any experience using inputs from Penreco?
