pH matters
Just wanted to share something interesting.Whilst working on a non-cosmetic product I had to test a competitor product that according the SDS and our own analysis was around 8-9% sodium benzoate in a water solution (and not much else). The pH was around 8.During the course of testing (after a couple of months) the sample managed to grow a large amount of mould (mold) due to the pH being out of the optimum range for preservation.This lovely specimen was removed from the top of the solution.

Yeah, if it was pH 4 it would have been better than this even without any preservative ????
