    Just wanted to share something interesting.
    Whilst working on a non-cosmetic product I had to test a competitor product that according the SDS and our own analysis was around 8-9% sodium benzoate in a water solution (and not much else). The pH was around 8.
    During the course of testing (after a couple of months) the sample managed to grow a large amount of mould (mold) due to the pH being out of the optimum range for preservation.
    This lovely specimen was removed from the top of the solution. :/

    Yeah, if it was pH 4 it would have been better than this even without any preservative ????
