Emulsion separating until cooler
Hi everyone,
I’m making a thick cream and I noticed something I’ve never seen before in my emulsions. It starts separating almost and becomes very thick at emulsion temperature (75C). I tried to put on my skin and it hardens as soon as it contacts the skin at this point. As I keep mixing while cooling down, it starts to form the emulsion at around 40C. I checked under the microscope and it looks like a tight emulsion so I’m not sure what is happening. Any thoughts?
Here’s my oil phase and I’m using Xanthan gum as water thickener at 0.5%:
Naturemuls (Candelilla/Jojoba/Rice Bran Polyglyceryl-3 Esters, Glyceryl Stearate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Sodium Stearoyl Lactylate) - 7%
Cetyl Alcohol - 2%
Hectorite gel soft - 2%
Squalane - 5%
Lexfeel n5 - 5%
Shea Butter - 3%
Preservative - 1%I appreciate the input. Thank you.
