  • Any tips for removing stains from hot plates?

Okay, so here we go to one more question about cleanliness (I apologize for the lack of diversity, but these are recurring issues). :flushed:

Does anyone have any tips on how to remove the stains that are on the heating plates after formulating? I’ve tried using soap and water (with the non-abrasive side of sponges) and degreaser (but I’m not sure I used it correctly because the stains didn’t always come off). We have 5 plates in our lab and all 5 have spots (some bigger, some smaller).

Any tip that can optimize this processes (and that is not too expensive) is welcome.

    Thank you in advance! 😉

This is a common problem. Not sure if I ever found a good solution.

The best solution I’ve found is Soft Scrub with Bleach.  It’ll get the surface clean, but next time you heat it up, you’ll get some staining recurring.

The spills get baked into the surface … I haven’t tried a spray-on oven cleaner, but I bet that might work.

We have used Alconox powdered cleaner with a mildly wet abrasive sponge in the past and it seemed to do the trick pretty well.
