Thick Shampoo Issues-Is Sodium PCA the culprit?
I have someone working on a shampoo reformulation for me. The surfactants are Sodium C14-16 Olefin Sulfonate, coco betaine, and cocamide DIPA. These were all in the the original formula. He has added glycerin and Sodium PCA for added moisturization. I am not sure at what percentages, but now the formula is too thick and has a gloppy texture. I know that glycerin can cause thickening, but is Sodium PCA known to thicken? I just want to have some ideas of direction. It’s hard for me since I am not the one doing the work and can’t see what exactly has been done.
