  • Composition of Chlorhexidine 1.5% + Cetrimide 15%

    Greetings to the forum members,

    My question is related to the composition of the Hospital concentrate. The active ingredients are Chlorhexidine 1.5 % w/v and Cetrimide 15% w/v. If I consider both the percentages as active % then I should use

    1. Chlorhexidine Gluconate Solution 20% : 7.5 %
    2. Strong Cetrimide Solution 40% : 37.5%

    Savlon and Hibicet are the two brands I have come across which make this type of concentrate. I am unsure of the fact whether the stated % of both the active ingredients are active % because 37.5% of Strong Cetrimide Solution 40% seems a very high amount to me. My question finally is are the stated % of the active ingredients an active % or that of any specific grade(s) ???

    Your response is eagerly awaited.

    Kind regards

    @MurtazaHakim
    The stated active on any Drug Facts label is % active ingredient solid state, never a factored solution. Your formula will indeed require ~40% of the standard 40% cetrimonium bromide material to meet the monograph claim. They dilute this at site, as you know.

    I am trying to emulate Hibicet or Savlon Hospital Concentrate. There are excipients as well but I am unsure of their composition in the final product. Isopropyl alcohol, Terpineol, Liquid deodoriser, Benzyl benzoate, d-Gluconolactone, Sodium Hydroxide and Purified water. There must be some patent disclosing something about this product.
