Styling Powder
Hello. First time poster here. I was looking at making a hair styling powder in the same vein as Sticky Gorilla’s hair styling powder. If you are not familiar, it is a light powder that if you put a small amount into your hands and rub, it goes from a powder to a kind of gel. Then you apply to hair or scalp.
I think the reason I’m having a hard time mimicking it is because the ingredients are listed in alphabetical order, which has not given me a place to really start. They are:
Glycerin, Silica dimethyl silylate, dimethicone/vinyldimethicone crosspolymer, silica, aqua, VP/VA Copolymer, Sodium Benzoate
I have all of these ingredients and started with a formula of:
SDS - 20%
D/VD CP (I have this in a gel form) - 1%
Silica - 56.9%
VP/VA Copolymer - 20%
Sodium Benzoate - 0.1%
Water- 1%
Propanediol (substituted this to avoid glycerin, but I don’t have to) - 1%When I tried it, it didn’t gel, just felt like silica powder (which makes sense), but adding more diluent of water or PD turned it almost paste like. Any ideas for anyone familiar with this this type of product, as it is fairly new to me.
Thank you for any suggestions.
