On DEA, N-nitrosating agents and Formaldehyde releasers
Hi everybody!
The company I work for sells a liquid hand soap that contains Cocamide DEA (6%) as a secondary surfactant and DMDM hydantoin (0.5%) as part of the preservative system.
I read somewhere that formaldehyde could catalize the reaction of producing nitrosamines from secondary amines. With DMDM hydantoin being a formaldehyde releaser, would it be safe to consider it a nitrosating agente and try to replace it in the hand soap formula?
What are some other nitrosating agents (besides sodium nitrate and bronopol) to be aware of when working with DEA?
