I am “freeze thaw” stability testing my products and so far only one has separated once it thawed out. Basically it contains 7% AHAs (mixed extracts), some calming antioxidants around 2%, preservative, chelating agent (tetrasodium), and I added a cold process emulsifier (sepiplus 400 at 2%) to thicken it a little. One it was thawed, when I picked it up I saw what looked to be a cloud of particles inside mainly floating toward the top of the liquid. I shook it 3 times and it looked perfectly mixed again, same as when I fisrt made it. Does this separation mean it’s unstable and I should change the formula or is it ok?
