Hi I am trying to make a sanitiser which is a clear gel like I see it in the stores.
I would love to find out what I am doing it wrong/right. I want to add oil/aloe/glycerin to eliminate strong alcohol smell & to add moisturizing properties.
Currently its is cloudy gel. Could be the way I am adding ingredients or ingredients itself.
My formula is below in %w/w

    Pure Water 35.38
    Glycerin 2.00
    Aloe Vera Juice 2.00
    Hydrogen P 3% 4.17
    Isopropyl Alcohol 54.95
    Eucalyptus Oil 0.30
    Sepimax Zen 1.20
    Thank you.

Hi! Perhaps your Eucaliptus oil is too heavy, and you need a solubilizer. You could try adding PEG-40 hydrogenated castor oil or Polysorbate 20.

Aloe vera gel is not peroxide stable either. So many are making that mistake its driving me bonkers. Both @ketchito and @Rockstargirl are counseling you well here too.

@chemicalmatt you’re absolutely right, and I remember some papers pointing out that Aloe vera and some emollients might actually reduce the antimicrobial potency of alcohols…there’s even an FDA warning, I believe.

Hi all thank you for your feedback. I will take that on board. I am adding aloe vera powder + pure water, not in a gel form. My final product is 62% alcohol which is more than the regulations I believe?
@chemicalmatt what would you add instead of aloe to have moisturising property? Thank you.

@ankitanks I know this question was not for me, but I remember I read an article about Ethylhexylglycerin and Panthenol being better humectants than Glycerin, since they don’t reduce alcohol’s potency.
