    Hello Everyone,
My name is Jamie. I am in the process of launching my own bath company. I have searched as much as possible trying to gain knowledge of mixing tween 80 and dpg. Needless to say I am fruitless in my search. I have only found that the combination for tween 80 and propylene glycol is being used for transdermal applications as an alternate route for Acetaminophen users. My questions are, in bath applications, will the combination tween 80 and dpg also create a transdermal effect in bath water similar to the tween80 and PG? What does happen when we mix tween 80 and dpg? Is there a better combination to use? Can they be used safely with optiphen? Sorry for all the questions and thank you in advance for the advice.

    Hello Jamie.
With respect, the group is the ‘Cosmetic Science’ forum.
I’m sure you will understand when I say that I have no idea what you’re talking about. Sorry.

I apologize. I was under the impression that tween 80 and dpg were used in cosmetic applications in reference to dermatologic skincare. I was hoping I could find some other information other than one is an emollient used in skincare products and the other is used as a diluent in perfumes.

What type of product are you trying to make?

I am making bath bombs specifically made for muscle tension after strenuous workouts. The goal is to make a proprietary blend that effectively combats muscle fatigue. Key elements are clary sage, magnesium, wintergreen, vetiver, and hemp oil.

The amount of Tween 80 and DPG will be so diluted once in a bath that you don’t have to bother with any accelerated transdermal delivery although this would be exactly what you want ;) . BTW, magnesium doesn’t work, it’s just a nice claim ingredient people rave about. The main active for sore muscles is wintergreen oil (like in all those products) and it goes through skin like nothing.
