  • Formula almost there but missing the marker!

    Hi experts! I have very dry, coarse and tightly curled hair and im making a deep conditioner but the problem im having is, my hair doesnt feel soft or detangled as products make my hair feel. ( Conditioner is protein and silicone ) Can you take a lot and see where im going wrong? Thanks in advance
    Water 80%

    Glycerin 3%

    Btms 3%(Behentrimonium Methosulfate, Cetearyl Alcohol)

    Cetyl alcohol 2%

    Cetrimonium chloride 2%

    Shea butter 1%

    Avocado oil 2%

    Olive oil 3%

    Ceteareth 20 1%

    Slippery elm ext 2%

    Fragrance .5%

    Vit e .5%

    You don’t have any silicone in your formula. You can’t expect to make a product that works as well as one with a silicone without using a silicone.

    Also, ingredients like Shea butter, Avocado oil and olive oil can leave a heavy film on the hair. And slippery elm extract? - that’s not doing anything. 

    You also don’t have a preservative in the formula which you need.

    Silicones work so well, I’d definitely recommend them. You can also try cationic guar (https://www.makingcosmetics.com/Guar-Gum-Cationic_p_309.html), or a polyquat (https://www.makingcosmetics.com/Polyquaternium-10_p_82.html

    Do you know what percent of BTMS is the cetearyl alcohol? You may need to bump
