  Substitute for Benzyl alcohol

  I have a lice treatment formulation that I make and one of the ingredients is benzyl alcohol.  It is considered an active ingredient in some treatments (ulesfia-5%), while other products call it a preservative (even at 10%). 
  I am curious if anyone knows of a similar compound that could replace the BA.

  Why do you want to replace it? And do you want the new ingredient to be the active ingredient, or the preservative?
