  Poly Suga Mulse D9 is not a real emulsifier?

  I just tried a simple test:

  0.5% coconut oil (molten)
  2.5% Poly Suga Mulse D9 (D9 was at a 5:1 ratio to coconut oil.)
  warm and stir
  add 97% water
  warm to 80 C and mix in high shear

  The solution was cloudy with some drops floating on top (likely unemulsified coconut oil)

  Coconut oil has a required HLB of 8 while Poly Suga Mulse D9 has an effective HLB of 12-14.

  That doesn’t mean it’s not an emulsifier. It means it’s not a particularly good emulsifier for coconut oil. 

  Try it to emulsify something like Beeswax (HLB 12) or Castor Oil (HLB 14).

  Poly Suga Mulse D9 is a fragrance solubilizer … no, it’s not really an emulsifier per se.

  also, all but the most robust emulsions will rapidly destabilise at that temperature
