    Hello dear Chemists!

Im trying to improve my Milky Bath Oil formula as it doesn’t make water really milky until you put really a lot. While it should work with 40-50 g per bathtub. I guess my formula is not really good.

    Here is the formula:

    Rice bran oil 50%
    Coconut (RDB) oil 40%
    Laureth-4 8%
    Fragrance oil 1.7%
    Vit E 0.3

Im wondering whether i should add some other emollients like Isopropyl Miristate or Isopropyl palmitate?

    Big thanks in advance.

I would try a different surfactant/emulsifier, preferably a combination.  I’ve used Polyglyceryl 4-oleate and polysorbate 80 together  in a oil cleanser and it worked out nicely.  HLB is not a perfect system but going for a combination of something hydrophilic  (higher HLB) and something hydrophobic (lower HLB) should help

@EVchem, interesting! I used exactly the same combination in an oil cleanser as well! I actually found it a milder and better (rinse off) than PEG-20 Glyceryl Triisostearate (Cithrol 10GTIS by Croda) that is intended for oil cleansers.

    INCI %
    Mineral Oil 57.80%
    IPM 20.00%
    Polysorbate 80 14.00%
    Polyglyceryl-4 Oleate 8.00%
    EO 0.20%

HLBs are close enough. I haven’t tried it as a bath oil (now I will) though but it works as a makeup remover.
