  • When to add Preservatives - Formulating Hair Wax

Posted by Louiswch on July 5, 2019 at 3:08 am

    Good day chemists,

i have a query regarding formulating my own hair clay wax.

should i add in the Preservatives as the last step or the essential oil blend first follow by preservatives.

One last thing, is there a way to find out the shelf life of my products.

Looking forward to your valuable input.

    Thanks

    It doesn’t really matter.
To find the shelf life, leave them on the shelf for a few years… I think I still have some usable hand cream that’s five years old.

@Louiswch the add of preservative should be at end cause making wax needs hot process so adding preservative shoud be at the cool down step.

@Fekher do you have any suggestion perhaps at what temperature should you pour the essential oil and preservative? Thank you

@hayno28 almost below to 60 degree C but it depends on the type of preservative and essential oil.

To determine shelf life you have to conduct a stability test and microbial challenge test.
