Hair Clay Consistency Not Sticky
Hello once again!
I do apologize for the large number of threads which I have been creating lately but I just seem to keep running into problems.
This one problem is a long-running one which I have attempted to fix for quite some time now.
I’ve been formulating a clay pomade for my personal use and for some friends and everything about it is fantastic with one exception. You see, when I remove the product from the container and smear it onto my hand, the product does not seem to “stick” if you will. It seems kind of dry, if not a tiny bit flakey. It smears relatively well but it is not quite as sticky as I intend for it to be while handling.
The formula is as follows:
Water 39.5%
Kaolin Clay 12%
Beeswax 12%
Emulsifying Wax NF 12%
Grapeseed Oil 10%
Soy Wax 7%
Shea Butter 3%
Bentonite Clay 2%
Vegetable Glycerin 1%
Euxyl PE9010 1%
Fragrance 0.5%Could it be the glycerin which is creating this problem? I considered doing a knockout experiment but I am running low on some of my ingredients and would rather have some input before I try my next batch.

@natzam44 actually i guess your product is o/w emulsion so you need to calculate required hlb because as i searched your emulsifier has 14,9 hlb wich is not your required one.

Maybe you need less Kaolin clay and more glycerin. Have you got a thickener in there? what is your methodology?

I believe the problem is just having too much kaolin. I have changed my formula around and will do a test today.
I was hopeing to get away with a large amount of Kaolin but that just does not seem realistic when i look at the texture of my product.
