Do I need to adjust Hyaluronic Acid % with Addition of Glycerin
I’m adding some Centella Asiatica (Gotu Kola) Extract to a serum recipe and the extract is dissolved in water and glycerin. When using the extract at 5% in my formula, there will be 1.975% (to be exact) glycerin in the solution.
Right now I use 0.4% High Molecular Weight Hyaluronic Acid in my serum recipe and the serum comes out as quite runny, but still has enough “hold” that it can rest on my fingers long enough to get it onto my face without dripping everywhere.
Will the 1.975% glycerin cause any substantial increase in the thickness of my serum? Is 1.975% high enough of a percentage to warrant dropping the HA down to 0.3%?

Glycerin doesn’t increase viscosity. So if HA is used as a rheology modifier in your formula, introduction of glycerin won’t justify reduction of HA.

The only thing the glycerin will do is compete with the HA for available water. I doubt you’ll see any difference.
