Out of curiosity, since I’m not familiar with the history of cosmetic emulsions: why and at which point it became more popular than simple oil? Is it purely tactile perception/cost-effectiveness or is there any science behind why emulsions are better for skin?

Yes, emulsions feel better and you are able to dilute the oils. So, it reduces costs and can help ensure consumers don’t leave too much oil on the skin.

And from a pharmaceutical point of view emulsions were and are needed as a vehicle to disperse substances for skin treatment.

It’s amazing how many benefits and properties people in skincare blogs attribute to vegetable oils, but apart from being emollients, they don’t do much else.

It’s true. In Russia and Ukraine, people still believe that oils work better than something with a well-developed formula.
